“I first met Paul, when we commissioned him to make 6 wooden benches for our communal space. That led to him taking on maintenance of our treasured communal garden.
We have a more eclectic approach to our garden not wanting a standard corporate planting scheme, and Paul was completely in tune with the unstructured feel we wanted to achieve and nurture, so into his trusted hands the garden went. We have had 3 different sets of gardeners before and had never been happy with their work. Now we are over the moon with the way it’s going, and know it will be cared for in the same way we would ourselves.
Some years on I was asked to Art Direct a video for The Huffington post and O2. The subject was…wait for it…a garden make over. Paul was of course my first call, with a little bit of diary shuffling, he was heading up the makeover team. To follow was a week of madness involving garden plans and tight costings that all led to a hectic scheduled make over day.
The garden was for a charity and with 9×19 metres of wasteland to transform, it was not going to be an easy day. Paul and his team worked tirelessly on the project which resulted in an oasis of a garden, easy for the the charity to maintain and with a planting scheme that gave all year round colour and structure. Everyone was delighted with the outcome, no more so than myself, as Paul turned out an amazing garden, and gave a polished performance for the video crew. What a star!
If it’s passion, reliability, creativity, honesty, and a really hard worker that you are looking for you have just found the gardener for you.”
“Thanks for turning our garden into a wonderful place to spend time! We love it and are incredibly grateful for your commitment to the project. Here’s a testimonial for your site. Thanks to garden designer, Lisa Hallinan, we were the recipient of a fantastic blueprint for a new garden. We then needed to find a company we could trust to build this new garden – on time and within an agreed budget.
Outside Designs was simply brilliant on all fronts. Over the course of around 5 weeks, Paul Knight and his team worked nothing short of a minor miracle on our urban garden, transforming it from an overgrown disaster zone into an idyllic, tranquil and beautiful space. Professional, courteous and constantly looking for ways to tweak the design on the page and make it the best it could possibly be, Outside Designs worked with a tangible sense of pride – as if this was their garden, not just another job.
This is a company that loves what it does – and it shows. The old ‘garden’ gradually vanished, leaving the canvas for the next phase, building the pergola – a solid oak construction built with such attention to architectural stability and longevity that it feels it could last a century. Next came the new path, the edging, pebbles, fence panels (which were painted) and, eventually, the new plants.
Today, rather than looking outside the kitchen window with a creeping sense of guilt at the horrendous mess of green we’d allowed to grow, instead, we sat in the garden, in the sunshine, in our pergola, marvelling at the beauty and calm of this wonderful new space. Outside Designs has taken our dream and made it a reality and, the thing is, they made it look easy.”
“We commissioned Outside Designs to create a design for both the front and rear gardens for a block of luxury flats in Muswell Hill, London N10 conservation area.
The design brief was to be sensitive to the location but also contemporary in keeping with the refurbishment of the interior of the building whilst also being easy to maintain.
Not only did they answer our challenging brief but understood the importance of after care and maturity of the garden in years to come.
Their proposal was very well considered and supported by colour visuals and a detailed quotation. We would be delighted to recommend them”
